GRANITE

A NEW LITERARY JOURNAL

What is Granite?

Granite is the rock that makes up the foundation of our home: Teton County, Wyoming. It is a rock that is made up of diverse minerals that have been heated, cooled and held together under pressure. We believe the multitudes of unique voices of this region deserve to be heard and not overlooked.

Granite is a new literary journal created by Tumbleweed Creative Arts. Built by and for those connected to Teton County, it’s a place for stories that crack open, voices that resist , and art that holds the pressure of place. We publish original writing, photography, and artwork from local contributors—emerging and established—who are helping shape the spirit of the Mountain West.

Submissions open now until May 31, 2025.
Our first issue “Pressure” drops December 2025.

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

This first issue centers on the theme of pressure: as weight, as force, as catalyst. We’re interested in the gravity of things: the weight of memory, of expectation, of identity; the compression of time, community, silence, or survival. What does pressure create, distort, or reveal?

We want to read stories that bear weight.

We want to see images and artwork that hold tension.

We want to hear from voices formed by force, fragility, friction.

Whether your work is polished or raw, we want to see it.

Theme: Pressure

Deadline: May 31, 2025

Eligibility: Open to creatives with strong ties to Teton County, Wyoming

Accepted forms: fiction, essays, poetry, lyrics, scripts, monologue, photography, visual art, hybrid forms, wildcards ^ experiments

Submission Fee: $10

“Like many rural and wildland states, Wyoming suffers from a significant imbalance when it comes to representation. Our state’s remarkable, under-appreciated history and extraordinary landscapes attract literary artists from all over the world. The inspiration they absorb here often follows them home. Meanwhile, our local artists — who hail from the complex families and multifaceted backgrounds that make up Wyoming’s rich cultural history — struggle to find local venues for expression, and often find themselves turning to out-of-state publications and organizations to platform their work. With ‘Granite’, our mission is to offer emerging writers a local outlet to showcase their work, thus ensuring that literary arts from Wyoming can thrive in Wyoming.”

Support the Project

Granite is the first publication by Tumbleweed Editions, an off-shoot press under our 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Tumbleweed Creative Arts. We are dedicated to amplifying local voices through performance, education and now publication.

Publishing a literary journal isn’t just about ink and paper, though; it’s about legacy. It’s about preserving the voices of a region in real time, and making space for stories that might otherwise go untold.

By becoming an underwriter of the very first issue of Granite, supporting local art and helping carve a permanent place for emerging writers in Wyoming’s cultural landscape, you will support our efforts to:

• Pay contributors for their creative work
• Print high-quality physical editions
• Distribute Granite to readers throughout the state and beyond
• Host our December 2025 release celebration at the Pink Garter Theatre

Whether you’re a business, an individual or a foundation, your support sends a powerful message: that local art matters and that your name stands behind the creative future of our very own talented neighbors.
