Directing for the Stage

CLASS DESCRIPTION
This four-week course offers students a comprehensive exploration of the director’s role in theatre. Through hands-on exercises and collaborative projects, students will learn how to transform a script into a fully realized production.

Key topics include understanding the director's responsibilities and identifying what to delegate, selecting and interpreting scripts with respect, and developing a clear rubric for evaluating acting and scene work. The course also emphasizes staging techniques, both with and without set pieces, and provides practical guidance on auditioning and working effectively with actors.

As a culminating experience, students will cast and direct short plays featuring participants from the Acting for the Stage course, putting their skills to the test in a dynamic and supportive environment.

This course is designed to equip aspiring directors with the tools, techniques, and confidence to craft compelling theatrical experiences.
