Teton County Connection

Wyoming is huge, and its stories are as varied as its landscape—but for this first issue, we start with Teton County. It is, after all, a place shaped by pressure of every kind: social, geological, historical, financial. We’re looking for writers deeply bound to Teton County: from it, of it, helping shape it. or changed forever by it. This might mean that, against all odds, you have managed to stay living here; or that you moved over Teton Pass or down to Alpine, but continue to work here. It might mean that this is the place to which you are fighting to return.

Remember, the theme is pressure, so the actual content of your submission does not need to reflect your connection to Teton County, but the answer to that section of the submission form does. So don’t hold back!

Original Work Only

We ask that all submissions be original, previously unpublished work. For written material, this means it has not appeared in print or online publications, including personal blogs. For visual work (photography, illustration, etc.), we understand pieces may have been shown in exhibitions or on personal portfolios—that’s okay. However, we ask that submitted visual art not have been previously published in another journal or magazine.

If you’re unsure whether your work qualifies, feel free to reach out—we’re happy to clarify.

Rights & Publication

We request first serial rights, which means Granite has the right to publish your work first in print and digital formats. After publication, all rights revert back to you. If the work is republished elsewhere, we ask that you credit Granite as the original publisher.

Editing

Every writer hopes, of course, that the draft they submit for publication is perfect, and requires no revision. This is rarely the case. We therefore leave the door open to the possibility of editorial collaboration, with the understanding that we may be accepting all or part of your submission, or asking you to consider small revisions ahead of publication. We’re being intentionally flexible with the formation of this first issue, so we ask you be too!

Compensation

Once selected by the jury for publication, contributors will be financially compensated for their submission (upwards of $100). Payment amounts will vary depending on the type and length of the work, and the number of pieces selected for publication. Final payment amounts will be confirmed upon acceptance.

Selected contributors will also receive a complimentary print copy of the journal, a digital file and two tickets to the publication release party at the Pink Garter Theatre in December 2025.

How to Submit

All submissions must be made through Jotform. There is a $10 submission fee per entry, which helps support contributor payments, printing costs, and future issues of Granite.

We encourage simultaneous submissions, but please notify us immediately if your work is accepted elsewhere. We do not accept previously published work (see above for details).
